The Marx 550 Wrecker was first introduced as part of the early six inch train line.
These are very tough to find. It is equipped with outriggers of a sort, in the form of steel
clips attached to the frame with eyelets. The next series Marx released (1936 round end
frames) also included this car. Below is a picture of the 1936 version with the clips.
Now, in the picture above, there is an oddity. The wrecker shown is on the square end frame (SEF)
but this
particular one has the holes for the track clips, which begs the question, did Marx ever
produce the wrecker on the SEF with the track clips? Do you have one? If you
