This 1935 U.S. Mail Car is unusual in that it has boxcar doors. It does not appear to
have been tampered with.
A few of these have shown up in different collections which lends
credence to their legitimacy. This is probably a factory error although it could be due to a
shortage of the correct doors.
I guess if you look at enough toy trains eventually you will find just about everything you didn't expect.
This is another one of those unexpected finds. This 547 baggage car with boxcar doors is an oddball. We find baggage cars with
boxcar doors and boxcars with baggage car doors. I have begun to suspect that someone who was not very observant was selecting
the parts for assembly. This is understandable considering that the door colors are identical. If you collect Hafner trains you
will see another aspect of poor quality control. It is not uncommon to find Hafner cars with two different color ends!
I had forgotten I even had this car. As I was selecting boxcars, for the boxcar page shown elsewhere in this
site, I stumbled upon this and decided it should be shown here. Above you see baggage cars with boxcar doors. Here's a boxcar with baggage car doors!
Never say never - with Marx.
A Bessemer boxcar with baggage car doors. How many others are there? Anyone have a B&O or an SSW?
