City Airport

This City Airport came with three unusual color airplanes and it was my very first Ebay purchase. Imagine, it is 1997 and I finally got internet service. I discover Ebay within a few minutes and search Marx. I am absolutely dumbfounded at the volume of Marx toys available. A couple pages in I find this airport with one day left in the auction. I am going to have to learn how to Ebay quickly. I place a bid and am quickly outbid and in a rare (for me) insightful moment recognize that I should not drive up the price by bidding again until the last moment. Fortunately, I have high speed internet service which is not widely available at the time. So I wait. My knees are weak and my nerves are on end all that day and right up till the last minute. Then, with 2 minutes left I synchronize my computer clock with the Ebay timer and decide to place my high bid with twenty seconds left. No-one will have time to react to my bid. I will either win or lose on this bid so I go to the limit. What a feeling to see the auction has ended at less than half my high bid!
My wife is happy too! Are you going to sell it, she asks? Duh!

City Airport

This was the first Airport I had seen with the original box and insert. I added an instruction sheet later.

I have often wondered how many variations there are of this? Below are some military variations.

Gerry Cirinelli allowed me to photograph this piece of Marx original artwork. What talent Marx employed!
