Green Commodore Vanderbilt Passenger set

This early six-inch passenger set is a rare bird. The green clockwork Commodore Vanderbilt engine is a 1935 production. The first year of Marx train production saw a couple variations on this engine. One has the name rubber stamped on the side while another example has a battery operated headlamp. This one shown is the most common version and this is a legitimate set as shown.

Early six-inch tin (1935) is noted for the silver litho frames (SLF), short wheel base, and Joy Line Couplers (JLC). The following year saw the Joy Line couplers replaced by the tab and slot couplers (TSC). The SLF survived for another year but they were used in clockwork sets only with TSC. The 1936 SLF cars are hard to find.
