Moon Mullins and Kayo Handcar

Here is the rare moon Mullins and Kayo hand car. As with all Marx toys there is more than one version and probably more than three. This toy exemplifies all that is great about prewar American toys. The lack of regard for political correctness and the bravado that was evident in our comedy. Can you imagine a mother today buying their child a toy with one of the characters standing on a box of dynamite! Heavens to murgatory! (Do you remember who's line that was?)

The black frame, which I would have thought to be later production, is actually earlier and apparently identical to a blue frame variation with the exception of color. This version is outfitted with the flimsy wire spring motor used in Girard toys and the Joy Line 350 engine. Personally, I like this one more. I think it's the box of dynamite that does it for me!
If you have a picture of another legitimate version of this great toy I would love to add it to this page.

The yellow frame version, with it's curving lines, would appear to be earlier but it has a cast frame and employs the clockwork motor used in Marx engines which certainly suggests a later production date.

I have replaced some of Barbara Jones's pictures with two sent by Paul Wassermann because they showed the original boxes.

(Thank You Barbara and Paul)

Heavens to murgatory was uttered by Sylvester the cat when he was frustrated by Tweety Bird.
