NOTES------------This item came out of the collection of Chester Holly from Florida, a source of many Marx prototypes and rarities. What we have here is a item which was probably being used to mock-up another toy in typical Marx fashion. The suggestion I like best is a Buck Rogers type train with wings and an air splitter, or some type of rocket train. The air splitter is well fashioned and is certainly not something produced in someone's basement. I have shown this to several machinists who all agree the fabrication of the nose piece is beyond the ability of someone without great skill and access to heavy tooling. In the profile pics one can see three punchings that are not common to other Marx M10000 engines. This is what has led us to the idea of wings. Whatever this was supposed to be the consensus is that it did come from Marx engineering or R&D and that it was probably sold at the first Marx auctions.
CONDITION-----GOOD. The piece does not appear to have been well stored leading to the belief that work on it was stopped at some point and it was thrown into a barrel or box to be used for other purposes and it remained there until the auctions. Add this to your streamliner collection and have the rarest and most unusual Marx M10000 known!
