The open spoke 999, the closed spoke 999, and the clockwork 666 (999) are well known to be rare or at least hard to find.
Here is another variation that has escaped the attention of many a Marx collector. This was probably the last run of 999's and
it headed up, of all things, a four wheel set. The casual glance will not reveal that this engine is equipped with a double
reduction motor.
The front of the engine reveals nothing special being a ribbed rivet version.
The real detail that distinguishes this from an ordinary 999 is the location of the Marx logo on the cab as opposed to the
boiler. This can't be readily faked and is what to look for to determine if you have the genuine item or a tranplanted motor.
